When you create a profile on LinkedIn, a public version of your profile is published to its member directory. Search engines like Google and Yahoo periodically review and show your profile in their search results. This indexes your profile and makes it searchable on the web.

If you want to be indexed by search engines:

  1. Under the Edit Visibility section in the right rail, toggle Your profile’s public visibility to On in your public profile settings.
    2. Invite and connect with your audience.
    3. Supplement your profile with additional sections and information.
    4. Edit your profile regularly to keep it current.
    5. Post daily/weekly or at least engage with your audience.
    6. Under your profile heading and in About, use keywords related to your profile.
    7. Have a clear headshot profile photo.
    8. Give and ask for recommendations.
    9. Update your skills and ask to get endorsements.
    10. Select a LinkedIn background image that reinforces your personal brand.
